County Proclaims June as Brain & Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

The Pickaway County Commissioners, by resolution, declared June “Brain & Alzheimer’s Awareness Month” in the county. The resolution coincides with The Longest Day initiative promoted by the Alzheimer’s Association. Each year, on June 21, the summer solstice, the Alzheimer’s Association invites people to participate in any activity they love (or an activity loved by those affected) to help end Alzheimer’s. The project attempts to raise funds and awareness for care and support while advancing research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s.

Berger Health System ALZ Programming

Berger Health offers a support  group for caregivers who assist those who suffer from alzheimer’s. The program attempts to build a support system with people who understand the hardships of the disease. The Alzheimer’s Association groups, are conducted by trained facilitators and act as a safe place for caregivers, family and friends of persons with dementia.Other activities include exchanging practical information on caregiving challenges and possible solutions. Talking through issues and ways of coping. Sharing feelings, needs and concerns. And learning about community resources that are available.  Meetings are held at the Berger Hospital Medical Building in Room 101. The next meeting will be July 10, from 2-3 p.m.. Berger has partnered with OhioHealth to bring neurology to Circleville. Three neurologists schedule appointments at Berger and perform procedures at Riverside Methodist Hospital. For more information visit Berger Health’s website.

Adena Health System Neurology

Adena offers neuro services as well. Their physicians are based out of Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. There are currently three physicians on staff that also hold outpatient hours at the Circleville office, located at 140 Morris Rd, Circleville. Additional information can be found online.
