Tommy Robinett, who is a 2016 Teays Valley graduate, is set to join the cast of Walt Disney World as a Character Performer. He was selected following an exhaustive process of a web-based interview, a phone interview and an audition in Atlanta. He will head to Orlando, FL in just a few days to join the Walt Disney World cast with his term ending in early January 2019.
The highly-competitive program that Tommy is taking advantage of is the Disney College Program. According to the Disney website, participants gain valuable, on-the-job experience. They participate in college coursework, and have the opportunity to meet and live with people from all over the country. Potentially the world. Also, this unique five- to seven-month program allows participants to network with leaders, take part in personal and career development classes, and build transferable skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, guest service and effective communication.
Tommy is not new to the stage. While attending Teays Valley, he was a member of the award-winning show choir, Prominent Rendition. Director Eric Farrell said, “Tommy is a very talented performer. As a teacher, I love to see my former students use their talents at the next level. I am incredibly proud of Tommy and this accomplishment.”
In addition, Tommy has recently acted in theater productions while attending Columbus State. In April, he played in “The Cradle Will Rock.” This musical ran for four days at Columbus State’s Nestor Auditorium. It was his first collegiate musical adding to his previous high school experience with roles in “Legally Blonde” and “Into the Woods.”
In a Facebook post regarding the opportunity, Tommy said, “I enjoy entertaining people and putting smiles on their faces. I love dancing and making new friends. I wanna (sic) thank all the people in my life [that have] supported me in my career that I wanna (sic) pursue…. That includes family, friends, and even teachers from my school.”
