Local Man Hiking Across USA

Eli Smith is walking across the United States to raise awareness for PTSD.

Eli Smith, an Ashville, Ohio native, is hiking across the United States in an effort to raise awareness for veterans with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  The hike is scheduled to hit all four corners of the United States and take more than three years to complete.

The journey for Army veteran Eli Smith began in Pensacola, FL in November 2016, and according to several news outlets, he hikes an average of 20 miles each day. The journey will consist of more than 13,000 miles when it is completed in Key West, FL

As of Aug. 6, Smith is in Des Moines, Iowa, and has so far crossed the southern part of the country, up the West Coast and is nearly half way through his journey from Las Vegas to the end route in Florida. It appears that the route will make its way through Central Ohio which can be seen on the map.
