Some Dam Summer Fun at Deer Creek

Thanks to the Deer Creek Dam, Pickaway County residents can enjoy one of the finest Ohio State Parks just a short drive from their home. Here are some fun activities to do at Deer Creek this summer!

Dam Anniversary Celebration
Tours of the Deer Creek Dam will be held May 26-28, at 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. as well as May 31-June 1,  at 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and June 2-3, at 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m.. Also held will be a Visitor Center Open House. Dates for this will be May 26-28, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and June 2-3, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m..  Check out all of the details here.

Boating
Take a boat ride on the 1,277 acre lake. Unlimited horsepower boating is permitted on the reservoir and there are two ramps available to use. If you need a boat, you can rent one from the Deer Creek Marina. A boat-swim area is located in the cove adjacent to the lodge.

Fishing
The lake is well known for Saugeye fishing below the dam. Catfish, largemouth bass and crappie are also great catches.

Swimming 
Cool down with a refreshing swim at the Deer Creek Beach. Stretching 1,700 feet, the beach is an ideal place to visit. Also available are picnic tables and grills. Remember that pets are not permitted on the beach. Swimming is open during daylight hours only.

Hiking
Seven hiking-only trails are found at the park:

  • Adena Ridge Trail – 3/4 mile – easy
  • Waterloo Trail – 1/4 mile – easy
  • Van Horn Trail – 2 miles – easy-moderate
  • Meadow Trail – 1 mile – moderate
  • Rolling Hills Trail – 2.5 miles – moderate
  • Marsh Walk Trail – 1 mile – moderate
  • Ridge Trail – 1.5 miles – moderate

Deer Creek Dam Days
Held May 30-June 1, in Williamsport, there will be music, food, games, and rides for all ages.​
